Margaret McKenzie, MD, is a licensed OB/GYN and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic and Case School of Medicine for the last 17 years. She uses an integrative approach to the care of the female patient. Her passionate interests include using the "Food as Medicine" approach to the care of her patients and helping patients achieve long term weight management as they age. Dr. McKenzie co-authored YOU: Having a Baby with Dr Oz which provided her new insights into the growing field of epigenetics and how it changes our approach to helping patients manage their risk factors for disease. She is a reviewer for the Journal of Women's Health and blogs for Sharecare.com and Discovery Health.com.
Martha Hackett, MD is a family practice physician and owner of Bijou Medi Spa and Hackett Medical Group. Dr. Hackett graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 1979 and has been practicing family medicine in Mentor for over 30 years.
Tom Frazier is a lifestyle coach and living food chef with more than 30 years of experience in the restaurant, retail and food production industries. He has extensive experience in the study of raw and vegan food preparation and lifestyle and has shared his knowledge through seminars over the past 10 years. He is committed to collaboration with sustainable local businesses that positively impact the citizens of Northeast Ohio.
Cindy Wheatcraft is the owner of the Creative Healing Center in Chagring Falls and a Ph Miracle Diet Coach. She is an expert on the alkaline diet, having been educated under Dr. Robert Young, developer of the Ph Miracle Diet.
Course Objectives
Upon Completion of this Course the Participant will be able to:
- Define the term Wellness and its measurements beyond typical laboratory testing
- Understand the basis of disease and describe the possibilities for disease prevention and reversal through diet, superfoods and lifestyle.
- Describe the impact of food on the neurochemistry on the brain.
- Understand the importance of a nutritional assessment as it relates to addiction or substance abuse problems.
- Explain the differences between an alkaline and acidic diet and the emotional and physical impact of each and methods of preparation.
